Lumbar Fusion
Lumbar fusion surgery or lumbar spinal stenosis is a minimally invasive back surgery that joins or fuses two or more vertebrae in the lower back. A small incision is made on the lower back through the muscles to offer support where it is the most needed. The procedure relieves pain between two vertebrae which could be caused due to degeneration of the surrounding cartilage. Usually, screws are placed between the two vertebrae, which are connected with rods. This will help in stabilizing the spin and prevent the development of chronic pain and other disorders.
The center for spine surgery at UMMC provides comprehensive care for several spine-related conditions and injuries. We have the best neuro-spine surgeons and spine surgeons who treat patients with chronic lower back pain. Our multidisciplinary team includes neurosurgeons, spine surgeons, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists, anesthesiologists, and psychologists, along with trained nurses and support staff. The primary aim is to reduce pain and improve the patients' mobility and functionality.
At UMMC, we use the Spine MinivasiveTM procedure as an innovative step to help our patients obtain relief from some spine conditions. This procedure is FDA approves, and it uses the patient's own bone to create a natural platform and help stabilize the spine and decrease both risks of rejection and surgical complexities.
