Telemetry

The Telemetry unit at UMMC is an innovative system developed for hospitalized patients who require continuous monitoring. The telemetry unit is an essential aspect of care for patients with cardiac conditions such as abnormal heart rhythms, high blood pressure, chest pain, and history of stroke or heart attack who require close cardiac monitoring and specialty care. We provide personalized care at every step of the process. 

Our cardiac telemetry unit consists of several patient rooms with vital sign monitors that transmit data to a nearby location. A nurse monitors the vital signs of the patient and responds to any change that signals a potential problem in their health status. The nurses also frequently perform patient assessments to record any change in their health status. The assessments include monitoring the vital signs, performing an ECG, analyzing the patient's breathing patterns, heart rate, and level of consciousness.

Patients in the Telemetry Unit receive the same level of care as patients in the other departments. Many patients are also referred to the Telemetry Unit by their physician as a part of recovery from a heart procedure. Once the patient’s heart rhythm stabilizes, they are either transferred to a regular hospital room or discharged home.
