Intensive Care Unit

An intensive care unit is an essential department of a hospital facility that provides intensive treatments. The patients admitted in an intensive care unit suffer from life-threatening illnesses and severe injuries requiring close and constant monitoring and support from specialist equipment and medications. Few conditions which require intensive care are heart problems, organ failure, lung problems, brain trauma, serious injuries, blood infections, and drug-resistant infections.

The intensive care unit at UMMC is a special department that offers life support and critical care in serious cases where the patient is acutely ill or severely injured. It is a critically functioning unit along with technical specialized and monitory equipment. Critical care services are appropriate for all age groups, right from pre-term baby to 100 years old patients. Our twenty-four hours of intensive care units are a combination of multidisciplinary intensive care units, and intensive care units dedicated to stroke patients, post-surgery cardiac patients, post-transplant patients. There are also special intensive care units for neonates and pediatric cases. 

The intensive care unit comprises highly esteemed and experienced physicians, nurses, respiratory care technicians, surgeons, pharmacists, and other allied health professions. They have the ability to interpret important therapeutic information and access highly sophisticated equipment, which helps in the best patient outcomes.
