The Infectious Diseases Department at UMMC deals with all types of infections, including community-acquired infections, hospital-acquired infections, invasive fungal infections, infections with drug-resistant organisms, tuberculosis, and infections in high-risk patients. We aim to improve patient care through early diagnosis and timely treatment and provide patient education for the prevention of infections.
Our team comprises infectious diseases specialists, physicians’, nurse practitioners, dieticians, and assistants who provide high-quality and comprehensive care to patients suffering from different infectious diseases. The department offers clinical supervision to both inpatients and outpatients. Besides, physicians also monitor the rate of infection in the hospital and the patients.
The infectious disease specialists provide special insight into laboratory tests which play a crucial role in diagnosing the infections and preventing recurrent infections. The laboratory studies often include blood studies, serum studies, and cultures of body fluids or wounds. We have a fully equipped laboratory with world-class facilities and equipment based on the latest technology pertaining to infectious diseases specialty.
Once a patient is referred to an Infectious Disease Specialist, they are requested for one or multiple follow-ups to review their test results, monitor the treatment, and ensure that the infection has been completely eliminated.
