Medical Nutrition Therapy

Medical Nutrition Therapy

Medical nutrition therapy is a medical approach and individualized nutritional process which helps in treating certain medical conditions. It can play a life-changing role in reducing complications associated with chronic conditions such as chronic kidney disease, gastrointestinal disorders, type 2 diabetes, and heart disorders.

The medical nutrition therapy department at UMMC is dedicated to providing quality and evidence-based patient-focused nutritional care. Our department conducts nutritional assessments for all patients by reviewing medical, laboratory, and diet history. Our primary aim is to encourage patients to increase their healthy eating knowledge and promote behavioural changes in patients admitted due to health problems.

The specialized team of dieticians and nutritionists at UMMC strives to ensure that meals are balanced and customized based on the nutritional requirements of the patients. They also carefully consider the patient's traditions and customs and include them in planning the diet. Our team provides nutritional counselling that complements the medical treatment. Regular documentation and monitoring help the patients to receive the best possible care. The patients, while discharging on therapeutic diets, are given an individualized diet plan.
